Churchill HS Signature Program Members Collaborate to Produce TravelTelevision
During the summer of 2007, members of Winston Churchill High School's three signature programs combined their talents to create "Project: Katrina Volunteers", a website and television series that highlight the efforts of the several thousand volunteers who have spent time rebuilding the Gulf Coast since Hurricane Katrina. The project involved the creation of a television show and two websites: (www.projectkatrinavolunteers.net and www.traveltelevision.org). Churchill has three signature programs: Math, Science, and Technology (MTS), Creative and Performing Arts (CPA) and International Studies (ISA). In creating the television show, Ardalon Sabet (MTS '09) and researched and contacted various television stations throughout the United States to get them to air the show on their station. To promote the show, Jeff Ochfeld (ISA '09) posted videos on various websites such as YouTube and GoogleVideo to draw attention to the show and the stories that it would tell. The TravelTelevision.org website was largely produced by Math, Science, and Technology Academy members Alex Roca (MTS '09), Ardalon Sabet, Vikrum Sheorey (MTS '09), and Aditya Kohlekar (MTS '10). The website also features a blog with pieces pulled from other blogs relating to the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast, as well as pieces written by members of the project. The blog, which can be viewed at www.katrinavolunteers.blogspot.com, was created by Creative and Performing Arts Academy members Alex Jamis (CPA '08) and Roxana Shamsazar (CPA '08). Much of the text on the website, as well as some of the public relations for the website and television show in the form of blog entries and press releases, was written by International Studies Academy member Elyse Toplin (ISA '08). The Travel Television show premiered on August 29, 2007 on Montgomery County channel 21.
